While many developers have beaten a path to the property hotspot, homegrown developer Majupadu Development Sdn Bhd is backing Kluang, 108km from Johor Bahru, to be a property growth centre.
The developer, which has been building residential units in Kluang for over two decades, plans to up the ante with Newpark, a 101ha mixed-use development comprising commercial and residential components, which aims to lift the image of Kluang in Johor’s heartland.
The small but growing town, which has a secondary market of nearly 820,000 residents from the surrounding towns of Batu Pahat, Pontian, Segamat and Yong Peng, has drawn in a number of industries with major corporations like tyre manufacturer Synthomer Plc, paper-based consumer-product maker Kimberly-Clark and refrigeration supplier Liebherr-International AG setting up facilities there.
Traditionally driven by agriculture-based industries, Kluang has attracted many light industries and is fast becoming a stopover for tourists, particularly those visiting Johor’s many organic farms and other destinations like Mersing, the Endau-Rompin National Park and Gunung Lambak.
Majupadu has established itself with the locals as a notable brand, thanks to its most prominent project, the five-level Kluang Mall, pictured, which has a net lettable area of 335,594 sq ft.
